The UUWF joined 40 other organizations, including faith-based groups and health organizations, in writing to three cabinet members and urging them to ensure that insurance companies comply with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) contraceptive coverage requirement. The letter was addressed to the Secretaries of Health and Human Services, Labor, and Treasury. While noting that many health insurance issuers are complying with the mandate under ACA, the National Women’s Law Center has discovered that other issuers deny coverage of certain birth control methods, improperly limit coverage to generic methods even when there are no generic equivalents, impose cost-sharing on certain methods and services, and in other ways delay or deny coverage. We asked for an affirmative statement from all three departments, ensuring that the out-of-compliance insurance companies cover — without barriers — all FDA approved contraceptive methods.
