Join this group for Black women who are Unitarian Universalists and in seminary to support and uplift each other on this journey, centering on Black womanhood and Black joy and excellence.

Our special guest, Takiyah Nur Amin, MFA., PhD, will be leading us on the topic of Kwanzaa. She is a dance scholar, educator, and academic success strategist. She has identified as a Unitarian Universalist for more than 20 years. Her writing has been featured in UU World Magazine, on WorshipWeb, as part of the Braver/Wiser project, in the Side With Love Worship Service, and in two edited volumes, Care for the World: Reflections on Community Ministry and BLUU Notes: An Anthology of Love, Justice and Liberation (co-edited with the Rev. Mykal Slack.) Dr. Amin has been featured as the Odyssey speaker by the Liberal Religious Educators Association (LREDA), as a keynote presenter at the Mosaic Makers: Leading Vital Multicultural Congregations National Conference and at several UU congregations, including Cedar Lane (Bethesda, MD,) Unitarian Universalist Area Church (Sherborn, MA,)  River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation (Bethesda, MD) and at the Pennsylvania Universalist Convention (held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Berks County.) Dr. Amin is a former Religious Education Assistant at the congregation in Blacksburg, VA, a graduate of the UUA’s Multicultural Leadership School, and a past facilitator for the Thrive Young Adult/Grow Racial Justice program. In her previous capacity as a member of the Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU) Organizing Collective Board, Dr. Amin lead the development of the Harper-Jordan Memorial Symposium, the BLUU Daily Affirmations ministry, the BLUU Harbors/Havens project and created monthly content for BLUUBox, a vital resource for those seeking to grow and deepen their faith from a Black Unitarian Universalist perspective. As an academic success strategist, Dr. Amin has consulted on curriculum design and led faculty development for several colleges, universities, and seminaries through her company, Black Girl Brilliance, LLC. Currently, Dr. Amin serves the faith as a member of the Ministerial Fellowship Committee (MFC.)
